Electric Toothbrush Test, Need To Pay Attention To These
As people’s awareness of oral health care continues to increase, a new type of toothbrush, the electric toothbrush, has quietly entered people’s daily lives. Compared with traditional toothbrushes, electric toothbrushes do have many advantages. Its reasonable exercise program can correct some people’s incorrect brushing methods, and some use high-tech designed functions such as sonic vibration function to clean the mouth more effectively.
Lack of electric toothbrush inspection standards
Because the product is relatively new and has been relatively minority in the past, the product standard of electric toothbrushes has been missing. At present, China only has the production standard of ordinary toothbrushes. For example, the manufacturing cost of dry battery products is relatively low, and the product price is low. The manufacturing cost of the charging device of the rechargeable electric toothbrush is higher, resulting in higher product price. Since each enterprise manufacture according to own standard,the electric toothbrush inspection is mainly entrusted by the enterprise and performed in accordance with their own enterprise standards.

The basic structure of electric toothbrush includes brush head, motor, battery, chip, metal protection plate and sleeve. In addition to see the internal structure, CQI’s electric toothbrush inspection also includes the following other points:
Electric Toothbrush Inspection Items:
1.Product labeling and description:
Wipe with water for 15 seconds, then wipe with gasoline for 15 seconds, and the contents are still clearly visible.
2.Appearance and structure inspection:
- The product is smooth, bright and clean in appearance, consistent in color and luster. The surface should not have obvious burrs, sharp edges, cracks and deformation.
- The surface coating shall not bubble or crack.
- The switch operation shall be flexible and reliable.
- The text, graphics and symbols explaining the functions are clear and correct.
3.Odor Inspection: It is required that the product has no odor.
Functional inspection:
The electric toothbrush can work normally and its function meets the relevant requirements provided by customers. For example, there is no abnormality when pressing the key for many times.In addition,the vibration frequency deviation between the brush head of the electric toothbrush and the marked value should be no more than 20%, the hair beam swing should be no less than 0.2MM, and the rotary electric toothbrush swing should be no less than 15, whichare performance requirements for electric toothbrush inspection in the industry.
5.Waterproof test
Electric toothbrushes are charged and often contact with water, so the result of waterproof inspection is important for electric toothbrush inspection.
6.Electrical Safety Test
The electrical safety test part of electric toothbrush inspection shall comply with relevant regulations of GB4706.1 and GB 4706.59.
7.Inspection of brush head
- 7.1 The pulling force of brush head hair bundle should be greater than or equal to 15N;
- 7.2 Firmness of removable brush head and handle shall be greater than 5N (Children’s toothbrush requires firmness of non-removable parts to be greater than or equal to 70N),
- 7.3 Bristles shall be neat and straight;
8.Noise test
The power level noise of swing electric toothbrush shall be less than or equal to 65dB(A), and that of rotary electric toothbrush shall be less than or equal to 72dB(A).
9.Drop test
After package drop and bare product drop test, there shall be no abnormality in the inlet part of brush head and no abnormality in functional use.

At present, electric toothbrushes have not been listed in the 3C certification catalogue in China. However, it is reported that the China Home Appliances Association has already started the standard-setting work for electric toothbrushes in March 2019.Because the standard will stipulate a unified product performance test method, which is helpful to standardize the production and market behavior of enterprises. Moreover, the standard specifies the safety of electric toothbrushes, such as electrical safety, waterproof and brush head firmness.
